Mayo ClinicHistoryThis clinic is named after Dr William Worrall Mayo who was born in England and emigrated to America in 1846. Mother Alfred Moes, a nun of the order "Sisters of Saint Francis", invited Dr Mayo and his two suns, William J and Charles H Mayo to join with them to build the 27-bed Saint Marys Hospital in Minnesota. This was opened in 1889. By 1892 more doctors were joining the Mayos as they developed a reputation for team work, accurate diagnosis and treatment. It was only a matter of time before the Mayo's Clinic became know as the Mayo Clinic. See the links below for a more detailed history of the Mayo Clinic. LocationsThe world renound Mayo Clinic has 3 locations in the United States:
The Mayo Clinic of South AfricaLocated west of Johannesburg, the Mayo Clinic of South Africa was founded by Dr Wypke Wypkema in 1974. There is no reference we could find to say whether or not this is associated with the Mayo Clinics in the USA so we haven't provided a link for the moment. Mayo Private Hospital, AustraliaAs far as we can tell this has nothing to do with the Mayo Clinic. It is an accredited Surgical and Medical Hospital serving the people of the Manning River District for 71 years. We only hope that their service is a lot better than their website! We haven't provided a link here so that it won't be confused with the Mayo Clinic. The Mayo Clinic Diet MythThis has nothing to do with the Mayo Clinic and you will find this quote on the Mayo clinic website:
